on 6/29/2008 I need to know what lines to open and close when vacuuming an inground pool. For example, is the main line closed or open? My hose connects in the pool (verses in a skimmer basket)and is attached next to where the polaris is hooked up. I have the main line closed, the vac line open and the pump on waste but am getting no suction. Can you help? Thanks

"Hi I am Francisco Cales from Tampa, Florida with Pool Inspectors on behalf of Expert Village and our theme for today is basic pool maintenance. A little bit of air is not a problem but too much air is a problem we will get a hiccup in our filter and that is not what we want. When vacuuming I prefer to start in the shallow end and work my way down to the deep end. If I have already pushed all of my debris to a certain spot, then I would go ahead and vacuum that area. If you vacuum on a regular basis, maybe just a spot vacuum might be needed at that time. If you are spot vacuuming, once you connect your vacuum, all you have to do is vacuum that certain area. More important would be to pick up any large debris that is part of vacuuming. A slow back and forth motion is all that is necessary to pick up the debris in the pool. You can also walk the walls and also clean your hose out."
