on 4/11/2009 One comment as a student of Krav Maga : A basic principle of Krav Maga philosophy is that we NEVER step back, we ALWAYS step forward...and this applies to getting into Basic Stance. A small but important detail that applies to the mentality as well as form of Krav Maga. As my teacher says, once you are under imminent assault, you take the fight to the attacker.

Video Transcript

"Hello my name is Darren Buckner from Dan Buckner’s Martial Arts from Miami Beach, Florida. On behalf of Expert Village.com we would like to welcome you. Today we will be discussing techniques from the Israeli Defense Forces called Krav-Maga. Krav-Maga is a hand to hand combat. We will teach you several principals and its steps of movements. We will also teach you self-defense technique in the shortest time. Krav-Maga is not martial arts. We do not teach you Karate or rituals. From there we are going to teach you stances and basic movements. We will talk right now on the proper stance which we call mutual stance or natural stance. It is a stance that is shoulder length or something you will stand natural on the streets. From there if the situation does occur, you go into a stance called a fighting stance. From a fighting stance we will place a right foot back and prop up the heel about 45 degree. Your stance is right below and underneath your hips. Your arms will come up directly about chin level and your elbows are inside. Once again, your heel is up, your elbos are in and hands at chin level. Heel is up, elbow is at chin level. "
