"The Ujai breath is a Pranayam that we're going to use only our nose, inhaling and exhaling from the nose. And it even, actually, has a sound. It sounds like... It doesn't need to be that loud. What we're going to do is bring our senses inward, so that the things around us that usually catch our attention and keep us away from practicing and being yoga will not be part of what we're aware of. So we're going to focus our eyes on a Drishti, a focal point, in every position. We're going to be feeling our breath coming in and out, smelling the breath coming in and out. Tasting our mouth, keeping the tongue relaxed, to be sure that we are feeling well as we're practicing. We're listening to the sound that we're making in our throat, and we're feeling each asna and feeling the breath. We're bringing the senses inward. That's called Pratyahara. And this is one of the reasons why the Ujai breath sound is so important."
