"As we're teaching our dog to walk on a leash properly, we use different exercises to help them learn to pay attention to you more than their surroundings. They're still going to be dogs and they still want to see what's around them and we want them to. You want them to enjoy life. But for their safety, we need them to focus on us more. Its similar to driving a car, you're looking at the scenery but you still have to be aware of the road a little bit more than the scenery so that you can stay out of a wreck. So what I'm going to show you is not a heel quite yet, but I'm going to show you how to turn your dog with your body language. As I walk, I'm being very measured with my steps. It's almost a metronome and it helps the dog keep a rhythm with you. When I turn left, I'm actually pivoting off my left foot and swinging my right leg around just a little bit to help her see that she doesn't need to go right. As I go right, I'm encouraging her to follow me a little bit."
