Hi, my name is Rebecca Luke, stylist and costume designer and founder of Rebecca Luke Style. I'm here at the iconic Baby and Company in Seattle, Washington to give you an overview of the types of men's vests. The men's vest and/or the waistcoats can be traced back all the way to Charles II's reign of England. I often call the men's vest or any vest in general a third piece for my clients, a very important piece to finish off your look. There are several types of men's vests out there, however, we can break it down into four categories. The first being a suit vest, your typical vest seen with a blazer and a pant. The second is an outerwear vest. This is a puffy vest or a down filled vest that you can be wearing over jeans and/or with sportswear. The third is a biker or a cowboy vest. These are typically leather and/or suede and the fourth is a sweater vest often seen on golf courses and seen as a preppy look. That's kind of the fourth vest. There are four things to look for when you are looking for a vest that can be overwhelming but the main things to look for are the types of material, what is it made out of, cotton, wool, tweed, suede, flannel? The pattern makes a big difference, that's a great thing to look for, the design, the cut and how you are going to accessorize. These are the four main things you can look for when looking for a men's vest.
