Hi, I'm Jill Brown. I've been a certified trainer and instructor in Los Angeles for 18 years, and I'm coming to you today from L.A. Dance Fit. Today, we're going to be discussing some of the best exercises for speed skaters. People who are speed skaters need to develop the muscles in the front and backs of their legs, as well as using them in a side to side motion. So, some of the best exercises for speed skaters include side-to-side squat lunges like this, where you step to the side and push off, just like you would as if you were speed skating. You'd be pushing off with your heel, using the muscles of the quads, hamstrings, glutes, and, of course, the lateral muscles of your legs and hips. You can use it with dumbbells or without. Another exercise I like to do for speed skaters is mimicking that side to side motion, but with plyometrics in a more explosive manner, like this. So, we're going to step from side to side, cross one leg back, and then try to get some air under your feet. You can pick up the pace. You can also go a little wider apart, so bigger, stronger. One other exercise I recommend for speed skaters is just to develop your explosive muscles, like doing a squat jump, like this: sit back on your heels and explode up. Make sure you land with the balls of your feet, drop into your heels, and push up from the backs of your legs. So, those are three of the exercises I recommend for speed skaters in Los Angeles at L.A. Dance Fit. I'm Jill Brown.
