April Fool's is a day for pulling pranks and telling jokes with your friends and coworkers. This year instead of taking the traditional approach, why not use one of these tech pranks to have a little bit of fun? Just don't get too carried away; you may underestimate who it is you're pranking.

Did You Hear That Noise?

You know how annoying it is when you hear the low-battery warning from a smoke alarm, but you aren't sure which one it is in the house? The Annoy-a-tron produces that same feeling. This small circuit board looks harmless enough, but it's far from it. Randomly emitting one of two available sounds, the Annoy-a-tron will drive coworkers or roommates mad looking for where you've hidden it. You can purchase the Annoy-a-tron from ThinkGeek.

A Cracked Screen Doesn't Make Anyone Happy

A quick search of Google Images for "cracked wallpaper" will return plenty of options of varying sizes. Download one of the images and set it as the wallpaper on a coworker's computer. Then watch him freak out. Or you can download an iOS or Android app with a built-in timer to simulate the cracking of your screen. Set the timer, hand your phone over, and watch as your friend thinks she cracked your screen. Search the App or Play Store for "cracked screen" to browse the free options.

Autocorrect Can Be Really Evil -- With Help

Android and iOS both have different methods for predicting what you're attempting to type, and then replacing it with the anticipated word. But sometimes Autocorrect (iOS), or the Custom Dictionary (Android), uses the wrong word. With a bit of your help, you can replace a common word such as "OK" with "you smell funny," or any word or phrase you choose. On iOS, add your own shortcut in "Keyboard Settings." On Android, you can add a phrase using a shortcut under "Keyboard/Input Settings."

Given enough time alone with a cell phone or computer, you can open the system settings and change the default language. Just make sure you remember what steps you took to get to the language menu (take screenshots or pictures with your phone), should you decide to show your victim mercy and reset the default language.

I Bet You Can't Beat My High Score!

You've no doubt seen YouTube videos where--just when your attention is at an all-time high--a scary zombie flashes on the screen, screaming at you, right? Well, you can do the same thing on an iPhone or Android device. This app, disguised as a game, will flash a zombie just when your victim thinks he's going to beat your score. You can download Scary Maze Prank for iOS, or Scary Prank for Android. Both are free. Or search either store for "scary prank" for more options.

Sticky Notes and a Mouse Don't Mix

Placing a small piece of paper, typically from a sticky note (since it already has adhesive on one side), to the bottom of an optical mouse can render the mouse pointer infuriatringly motionless. Cut a small piece, just big enough to cover the red light on the bottom of the mouse. Make sure the adhesive takes hold, since you don't want it falling off right away. Once the computer user tries to move the mouse around, the cursor won't move along with it.

My Phone Is a Solar Panel -- You Should Try It!

Trick your friends into thinking your phone can transform into a small solar panel capable of charging its own battery. Of course, none of this is actually true, but you can watch as your friends look in amazement as the on-screen animations look as if your device is actually charging. Then convince him to download the app and give it a try! There's plenty of free options for Android users in the Play Store, while iOS users are looking at $0.99 for this prank. Just search "solar charger."

The Classic Blue Screen of Death

If April Fools' were to pass without one person downloading and installing the Blue Screen of Death screensaver, it would be a sad, sad year. Install the BlueScreen Screen Saver on any Windows machine, wait for it to come on and then laugh as your target freaks out.

Brush Up Your Photoshop Skills

Take a photo of your friend, Photoshop him out of it, and begin placing him into random photos. Try photoshopping him into famous photos, like standing next to President Obama during his inauguration. Get creative, but if your Photoshop skills aren't the best, don't get discouraged. Just have fun with it. Once you have a hilarious lineup of funny pictures, begin posting them to Facebook and tagging your friend in them. Laugh as the comments come in. Then repeat.

The Unresponsive Desktop

Here's another classic prank: Take a screenshot of your coworker's desktop, and then set the screenshot as the desktop wallpaper. Once you've done that, hide all the files, folders and app icons. The desktop will look identical, but nothing will happen when the pranked clicks on an item. You may have to turn on autohide for the task bar or dock to ensure the prank works perfectly.
