Ticks are tiny anthropods that live off of human and animal blood. Certain types of ticks will attach themselves to pets and people and suck their blood for hours. Ticks are the No. 1 carriers of disease, so prevention is key. Home cures are available to kill ticks and treat tick bites.
Neem oil is helpful in preventing ticks from getting to people or pets. Combine 4 tsp. neem oil with 1 gallon water, and then spray down the lawn surrounding the house once a week. This mixture will keep ticks away, according to YGO Home Remedies, so you don't have to worry about getting bit.
Clear Nail Polish
If a tick has already embedded itself into a person or pet, clear nail polish can help get the tick out, according to Herbal Home Remedies. Take the nail brush out of the bottle, and let two drops of clear nail polish fall onto the tick. The nail polish will cause the tick to start backing out of the skin, so you can wipe it off the skin.
Garlic is natural way to prevent tick bites, according to Mosquito Barrier. When garlic is consumed, ticks are repelled from the skin and won't try to bite. Humans can protect themselves by taking garlic supplements, and they can protect their dogs by grating fresh garlic over their dog food.
