Ideas for Water Features
Water features come in all types, sizes and shapes, from a tiny water garden meant for a table on the patio to an in-ground pond stocked with fish and plants. When choosing a water feature, keep in mind how you will get electricity to it and water to replenish evaporation. Does this Spark an idea?

Fountain
-
Fountains spray the water up into the air. It then flows back into a basin. One of the most recognizable fountains is the tiered look. The first basin is on a pedestal, with one or several tiers above. The water sprays from the top tier. It then trickles over that basin and falls into the lower basins. When it reaches the lowest basin it's pumped back up into the top.
Use a fountain water feature near the entry way to welcome guests. Plant flowers around the base or construct a planter with bricks and plant the flowers there. Keep in mind that access to electricity is necessary. Put a bench by a fountain in the garden to create a spot to rest for a few moments between garden chores. If birds visit your yard, the fountain will be used by the birds to bathe or get a cool drink.
Waterfall
-
A waterfall usually has more force than a fountain. Use a wall waterfall, secured to a wall rather than freestanding, in a courtyard or on a patio. A waterfall as part of a pond gives a naturalistic look to the yard. Build the waterfall using rocks and a vinyl liner or a hard vinyl form. Landscape around the waterfall with plants and flowers.

Pond
-
The pond may be set in the ground, above ground or in a waterproof container. A man-made pond is lined with a vinyl liner to hold in the water or a hard plastic preformed pond liner. It can also be constructed of waterproofed concrete. Create a tiny water garden in a watertight container. Place the container where it does get some direct sunlight or in dappled shade. Put river rock on the bottom of the container. Visit the pet store and obtain aquarium plants to oxygenate the water. While you're there buy a few fish to add interest and eat mosquito larvae. Float a water hyacinth or water lettuce on the surface of the pond.
