Woodworking Ideas for Gun Cases
Gun cases can display both rifles and pistols while also keeping them locked away from young children. Just as glass-doored curio cabinets can house knickknacks, gun cases can house guns in much the same way. The design of the case depends on what type of gun you want to display, but most gun cases can be altered to fit both.

Single Rack Gun Case
-
A straightforward design when building a gun case is using a style similar to a curio cabinet (short solid doors on the bottom, tall glass-fronted door on top). Including the base, this slim cabinet measures 29 1/2 inches across and has height dimensions of 20 inches for the lower section and 51 inches for the upper portion (which will display the guns) giving it a total height of 71 inches. Width-wise this cabinet is very narrow with an overall depth of 15 3/4 inches. The appearance of the doors can be altered to suit tastes. The lower doors can be left plain or have a raised panel design to give the piece more character. In the upper portion of the case, a narrow rack should be installed roughly 34 inches up with slots cut into it for holding the guns.
Double Gun Case
-
Displaying pistols and rifles together in one space can be a bit awkward given their size differences. A way to combat this and keep them both within the same piece of furniture is to create a gun case with two separate display areas. As rifles require the most room, a simple rectangular glass-fronted cupboard as the upper portion of this case is very effective. The lower section is a bit more difficult. Rather than continuing straight down, instead begin the lower section of the case with a steep outward slant before dropping back down. This lower section should be divided into two areas: a bottom drawer and a display area. The display area is located within the slanted portion and is fronted with a downward opening glass door.

Double-Wide Case
-
This case is the largest and features a top section with double doors rather than single doors. The case is 71 1/4 inches tall and 42 1/2 inches wide, which provides ample storage and display room. The two sides of the top section offer different presentation options. It can feature a double-wide rifle display rack or one half can feature shelves for displaying pistols and other supplies. To give it an added rustic appearance, use wrought iron hardware for both the hinges and knobs.
