A leader is different than a boss. According to NW Link, a leader influences others to strive for a common goal. A boss lays out a plan according to the company doctrine. In order to be an effective leader there are good leadership behaviors you should follow. Learning how to be a good leader takes time and patience, but the ability to influence others to help you reach a common goal can be helpful.
A good leader shows focus on their goals and inspires others to keep that focus as well. Develop a system of organization that allows you to deal with other issues, but still maintain a focus on the task at hand.
When you treat people with respect, they will normally respond in a positive manner. Understand the needs of those working for you and try to keep those needs in mind as you work toward the objective.
If you keep team members updated on a situation, they are more apt to respond to your instructions. Maintain open communication with those around you and make sure everyone has the information they need to feel confident in your plan.
It is not always necessary to reveal all information to everyone, but when you do tell people something, it needs to be the truth. A good leader makes sure that all communication is honest and can be verified as fact.
People look to a leader because they believe that leader has the ability to see a plan to completion. Having a vision of how something needs to be done, and being able to explain that vision to others so that they understand it, is an important leadership behavior.
It can be difficult to get everyone to understand an idea. A good leader can persuade those that do not understand the vision to at least believe it in enough to help see it through.
People sometimes need to feel empowered in order to want to help complete a project. A strong leader understands the strengths and weaknesses of their team members and can delegate tasks and authority to people in an appropriate way.
