From scary stories to haunting parties, Halloween is a fun time of year for all ages. One of the things that lends to the enjoyment of the holiday is the ability to dress up and pretend to be someone else for a day. If you don't want to dress up as a run-of-the-mill ghost or witch, consider any of several unique costume ideas.
-
Bag of Jelly Beans
-
Start with a clear plastic garbage bag and balloons. Cut holes in the bag for your arms and legs. Decide what color jelly bean you would like to be and blow up balloons in that color. Another option is to blow up assorted colored balloons for a variety bag of jelly beans. Place the balloons inside the garbage bag. To secure it to your body, tie a ribbon at the top of the bag near your neck. If you would like, print out a jelly bean brand label--such as Jelly Belly--from Clip Art and affix the picture to the bag.
Operation Man
-
The board game Operation is the inspiration for this unique costume idea. A pair of skin-colored pants and shirt are the basis of the costume. From felt, create shapes that mimic the pieces in the board game--for example, butterflies, a broken heart, a pail of water and a wish bone. Place the pieces on your clothing in the appropriate spot--the wish bone over your left rib, the broken heart over your heart, the pail of water on your knee and so forth. A big red clown nose and a large pair of tweezers finish off the costume.

Cereal Killer
-
This version of a cereal killer costume will have people laughing instead of screaming. Sport old torn clothing. Create blood by splashing some red paint on your clothing. Tousle your hair. Dip a fake knife--which you can purchase from a toy or costume store--in red paint. Cut out the labels of cereal boxes and attach them to your clothing with safety pins. Fill a few plastic bags with different types of cereal and carry them around. When people ask you what you are, inform them that you are a cereal killer.
