Vitamin B12 injections may help alleviate some symptoms of some conditions.

Vitamin B12 is one of the B-complex vitamins that aid the body in the conversion of food into energy. Injections of B12 are used to treat deficiencies that result in a number of symptoms such as fatigue, diarrhea, shortness of breath and nervousness, according to the University of Maryland Medical Center. Before considering B12 injections, patients should consult with their doctor.

  1. Relieves Fatigue

    • Chronic fatigue syndrome may benefit from vitamin B12 injections. The disorder does not have one known cause, but deficiencies in vitamin B12 do cause fatigue. Those not suffering from chronic fatigue syndrome can also benefit from B12 injections, but research is needed to confirm the benefit, according to the University of Maryland Medical Center.

    Heart Disease

    • Vitamin B12 injections may help some heart disease patients who have elevated levels of homocysteine. Patients who develop heart disease have elevated levels of the amino acid, which is controlled by B-complex vitamins, including B12, according to the University of Maryland Medical Center. The American Heart Association does not recommend supplementing a healthy diet with vitamin B12, but in patients with heart disease and elevated amino acid levels, the injections may be a necessary treatment.

    Male Infertility

    • Vitamin B12 injections may be able to help men with low sperm counts or low sperm mobility. However, the research for using vitamin B12 injections for male infertility is not sufficient to definitively recommend the injections and additional studies are needed, according to the University of Maryland Medical Center.

    Asthma

    • Asthma is linked to lower levels of vitamin B12. Supplementation with B12 injections may be able to help alleviate the symptoms of asthma, according to International Health News. However, according to the University of Maryland Medical Center, there must be more research in the area of vitamin B12 injections for the treatment of asthma.
