Fun & Easy Games for 5 Year Olds

Games offer an active way to keep little ones entertained and prevent their boredom. If you are looking for games for a group of five-year-old children, create a few easy games they can play indoors or outdoors with a couple of inexpensive supplies. Whether you are planning these games for a birthday party or an organization, games give the youngsters a chance to have fun while using their small and large motor skills.

Egg Relay Race

  • Divide the five-year-old children into two teams and have them line up at a starting line. Mark another line about 15 feet from the starting line. Give the first player in each team line a spoon and an egg. Hard-boiled eggs are best, because if they fall off the spoon they will not splat and players can use them again. When you say, "Race!" the first player in each team line has to run to the other line and back with the egg balanced on his spoon. If a player drops an egg, he must place it back on his spoon before continuing the race. He must pass everything off to the next player in line who must do the same thing. The first team to have all their players finish the race wins the game.

Beanbag Circle Race

  • Have all the young children sit in a circle. Give two players a bean bag (make sure they are sitting directly across from each other). When you say, "Go," the children will start passing both beanbags around the circle. The beanbag that gets back to the person who started it wins the race. Start the beanbags with different players each time. Since the beanbags "win" the game, award all the children a small prize for their participation.

Chopsticks and Raisins

  • Gather all the children around a table and give each player a pair of chopsticks. Place a plastic bowl in front of each player and place three raisins in each bowl. When you say, "Go," the children must use the chopsticks to move the raisins from the bowl to the table. The first player to do this wins the game. Tell the children they cannot use their hands to touch the raisins at any time.

Donuts on a String

  • Hang a rope or string in between to trees or poles outside. Place enough donuts on the rope or string for each child to have one. Space the donuts about a foot apart so each child has room. Make sure the rope hangs low enough that each child's mouth can reach it. Tell the children to place their hands behind their backs and try to eat their donuts. The first player to eat his entire donut off the rope wins the game. Remind the children not to laugh or be silly while eating their donut, to avoid choking.
