Ladies' Tea Games

Tea party games provide an opportunity for your guests to socialize.

Ladies tea parties are a classic way for women to enjoy companionship while sipping tea and eating a light snack. Whether you're serving an informal backyard garden tea, a traditional high tea or a basic tea in a community center or church basement, adding games into the tea party mix is a sure way to ensure guests are entertained. Does this Spark an idea?

  1. What's Your Name

    • "What's Your Name" is ideal for any party with 12 or more guests. Type at least eight statements (more if you have more than 12 guests and if you want this game to take several minutes) that would require a guest to find another guest who matches the statement. For example, the statement could require the guest find another guest whose name begins with the same first letter as her first name, who knows the same number of languages, who enjoys the same candy bar, who has the same number of siblings or who enjoys the same vacation. Provide copies of the statements to each guest with a pencil. Have the guests mingle with each other, discovering which guests match the statements for their sheet. The guests should write down the name of the guest whose statement matches. The guest with the most matches wins.

    White Elephant Tea

    • A white elephant tea is conducted like a white elephant gift party. Have each lady bring a wrapped teacup or mug. Specify whether you would like ugly tea cups and mugs, silly ones, pretty ones, only used ones, etc. Attach a tag with a unique number to each wrapped item. Put matching numbered papers in a large teapot. Have each guest pick a number from the teapot. The guest will find the teacup or mug with the matching number and unwrap the package. If desired, women can trade drinkware.

    Put a Penny

    • Acquire three rolls of pennies for each table. Place the pennies, unrolled, in a large bowl in the center of each table. Compile a list of statements about beliefs, habits or experiences. For example, the list could include, "If you have traveled to all 50 states, take a penny," "If you have been to New York City, take two pennies," "If you like to chew bubble gum, give a penny" or "If you have met a date off the Internet, give two pennies." Read the list, and have the guests follow the instructions. The guest with the most pennies at the end wins.

    Tea Trivia

    • Write down a list of tea trivia questions. Provide each guest with a pencil and a list of the questions. After all the guests have had a chance to answer the questions, review the questions and answers. The guest with the most answers right wins. (See Resources for an example.)
