Most major credit card providers have programs that provide credit cards for young adults regardless of credit history.

Capital One

The Journey Student Rewards card from Capital One focuses on helping undergraduate students build a good credit foundation. To help you, Capital One provides free tools that help you learn about how credit works. Likewise, it sends free texts and emails to remind you of upcoming payments. Each purchase receives 1 percent cash back, and each month you pay your bill on time you receive a 25 percent bonus on that cash you earned back. There is no annual fee, and a 19.8 percent APR.

Discover Student Card

The Discover student card offers an entry of 0 percent APR for the first nine months, with an APR as low as 13.99 percent after the entry period. Discover caters to the student by offering a 5 percent cash back for purchases at gas stations, department stores, grocery stores and more. Likewise, there is a unlimited 1 percent back on everything that you purchase.

Citi Forward

Tthe Citi Forward card does not require a cosigner to receive, and you will get an APR reduction on your purchases as you use credit wisely. Likewise, you will receive 100 ThankYou points for each month that you do not exceed your credit line and you pay your bill on time. There is no annual fee, but you will need to have good credit to be approved. After the 0 percent APR introduction period, regular APR will vary between 13.99 percent and 22.99 percent.

Account Now Prepaid Visa

If you are not a student, or you do not have any credit history, a prepaid credit card might be the best option. The AccountNow Prepaid Visa card offers no credit check and 100 percent guaranteed approval. You will not have a month fee to keep the Visa active. If you are employed, you can have your paycheck directly deposited onto the AccountNow card. This card also offers Purchase Rewards when you use your card.
