What Types of Settings Change Your Internet View in All Browsers? thumbnail
Change your browser's settings to view websites as they were intended.

When browsing the Internet, you want to view websites as their developers intended, viewing pictures, videos and other other content. Regardless of the browser you use, several settings affect the way that you view Web pages. For example, all browsers have a "zoom" feature, which lets you increase the size of graphics and text --- a particularly effective tool if you have a small computer monitor.

  1. Zoom

    • Zooming changes your view of different websites. For example, in Opera's Web browser, users click the "View" button in the bottom left corner of the screen and select "Fit to Width" or "Show Images," or drag the zoom bar to a larger or smaller size. In Internet Explorer, users click the "Zoom" button in the bottom right corner of the browser and select a zoom percentage. The zoom feature enlarges or reduces your view of websites. Unlike the font size change function, the zoom feature changes the view of all elements on the page.

Window Maximization / Minimization / Restore Down

    • Regardless of the browser you use, Windows has a maximize, minimize or restore feature, which changes the view of window content. When you maximize your view, the browser's content size does not change. Instead, the browser window itself expands to cover the desktop. The window does not, however, cover the task bar at the bottom of your screen unless you have the bar set to "Auto Hide." When minimized, the window goes out of sight; you can maximize it again by clicking the application's icon, located on the task bar. You can also size the window as you would like. For example, if you want to browser windows to sit side by side, press the "Restore Down" button, located to the left of the "X" button at the top right corner of the browser window.

    Font Size

    • Regardless of the browser you use, you can increase or decrease your font size. This settings only change the font size of text visible in your Web pages. It does not, however, change the size of images. That function is reserved for the "Zoom" feature. For example, Opera users change their minimum font sizes by clicking "Menu," "Settings," "Preferences" "Advanced" and "Fonts." Users can enter minimum font sizes in this window. Alternatively, Internet Explorer users select "Page" and "Text Size," then select a different size from the list of options.

    Browser Add-Ons

    • Browser add-ons also change how you view websites. Every browser has the ability to use add-ons such as JavaScript, Flash or toolbars. For example, Flash allows you to view video clips on websites such as YouTube, Daily Motion or Hulu. Without the Flash add-on installed, users cannot view these videos. Sample toolbars include the Norton Toolbar, which protects you from fraudulent websites and from downloading dangerous content that can destroy your computer.
