Towels As Gifts

Giving towels as gifts is appropriate for many occasions such as housewarming parties, baby or bridal showers, anniversaries, birthdays, and holidays. Depending on the occasion and recipient, you may choose to make a craft with the purchased towels, have the towels personalized, or give the recipient a collection of decorative towels.

Towel gift baskets are appropriate gifts for couples and families during holidays and special occasions as well as housewarming gifts. Fill a basket with bath towels, hand towels and wash cloths that have been rolled up. To add a more decorative touch, tie a ribbon around each rolled up towel before placing it in the basket, then tie a ribbon around the basket with a bow in front. For a themed towel gift basket, make a beach day basket with beach towels as well as other beach items such as sunscreen and flip-flops.

Make a towel cake for a bridal shower or baby shower by stacking different sized towels and wrapping it in ribbon. For a bridal shower, choose three towel sizes (bath, hand and wash cloths) for three different cake tiers. Fold the towels in half lengthwise, and pin them together with safety pins to make a long row of towels to roll up. Make three rows of pinned towels; one for each size. Roll the row of bath towels first and secure them with ribbon. Roll the hand towels next and place them roll on top of the bath towels. Repeat the process for the wash cloths and place a decorative bow on top of the towel cake.

Monogrammed towels are a great gift for a housewarming party, anniversary, family gift or wedding gift. Have bath towels and hand towels embroidered with the family's last name on them, the person's initials or the couple's initials. For a wedding gift, you can also have "His" and "Hers" embroidered on alternating towels. For families, have one towel with each person's first name embroidered on each towel, or have a few towels embroidered with the family's last name.

There are a variety of crafts to be made from dish towels for a homemade towel gift. For instance, you can sew together dish towels to make an apron, pillow covers, toaster cover or reusable tote bag. Solid-color dish towels can be painted with fabric paint, sponges and brushes. When giving a kitchen-themed gift for a housewarming or wedding gift, use dish towels to wrap the gift.
