Renaissance Wedding Crafts
Renaissance-themed weddings are a popular choice for today's couples. The theme gives attendees a chance to participate more actively in the wedding festivities and allows the couple to put a personal touch on many aspects of the wedding. Making your own Renaissance crafts for the wedding is a way to customize your wedding to fit your exact desires and save money in the process. Homemade items show your guests that you appreciate their support.

Floral Circlet and Barrettes
-
Make a floral headband or barrettes for the bride and wedding party. You will need 18-gauge floral wire, green floral tape, silk flowers, wire cutters, and the comb or barrette or your choice. To make the headband, measure the wire around your head and form it into a circle. Twist the ends together to close. Wrap the entire circle in floral tape. Attach flowers in the desired pattern you wish with the floral tape. Use the wire cutters to cut the flowers to size. Barrettes and combs are made the same way, but do not require the wire. Simply attach flowers to the barrette or comb with floral tape. Ribbon can be added to hang down as streamers.
Unity Candle
-
Candles in the Renaissance were often made of beeswax. Purchase a beeswax candle or roll your own with beeswax sheets found at craft stores. Embellish the candle by tying embroidered or decorative ribbon around the base and attaching dried flowers with light-gauge floral wire. Velvet ribbon could also be used if the wedding theme is more formal and the wedding rings could be attached to the ribbon bow using floral wire.

Faux Wax Seal
-
Colored hot glue makes these faux wedding seals an inexpensive Renaissance wedding craft. The seals can be used to decorate invitations, attach to favors, or just put out on tables like confetti decoration. To make the seal, put a nickel-size amount of hot glue on a marble or ceramic tile or plate and stamp a brass seal of your choice in the middle. Push hard enough so that a small amount of glue comes out the sides of the stamp. Remove the stamp once it's cool and peel the seal off the tile or plate. Alternately, the glue can be put directly on an invitation and stamped the same way. Dip the stamp in cold water to help it release from the glue easier.
Velvet Pouch Favor
-
Buy pre-made velvet pouches or make your own to give out Renaissance-themed wedding favors. If you are making your own pouch, you will need to sew velvet squares together with right sides facing each other, leaving one side open. These can be made to your own size specifications. Turn the pouch right side out and fill with chocolate gold coins or homemade potpourri. Tie the pouches with ribbon at the top to seal them. Alternately, fill pre-made pouches with the chocolate coins or potpourri.
