Wedding Card Boxes to Make
Card boxes, sometimes known as envelope boxes, are useful receptacles for all those well-wishing gift cards you get from your guests. These handy boxes are an opportunity for you to show off your creative skills. Depending on your style and your wedding theme, a DIY card box might be the perfect addition to your wedding decor.

Covered Shoe Box

This is a quick and inexpensive project to create a custom-made card box for your wedding. Find decorative wrapping paper that matches your wedding decor. Get a medium-sized, sturdy box such as a shoe box. Your box should be extra deep if you want to include a card slot. Cover the top of the box in decoupage or book binding glue. Apply the paper to the box as neatly as possible. Repeat the process with the bottom of the box. Cut a thin, rectangular card slot into the top of the box with a craft knife. If you aren't including a card slot, choose a solid-colored paper for the inside of the box, which will be on display. Use one piece for the bottom and four pieces for each side, gluing them individually to the inside of the box. Attach a complementary ribbon to the top of the box.
Wedding Cake Box

Create a tower of boxes that look like a wedding cake for guests to deposit cards. Gather three round boxes, such as hat boxes, of varying size. Wrap each box in matching wrapping paper that complements your decor or looks similar to your wedding cake. To get a professional appearance, glue a piece of paper to each section of each box individually. For example, trace the bottom of the box onto the paper, and then glue that circle on to the top and bottom of the box. Cut out a long strip for the sides. Use a decoupage glue to coat the surface. This will smooth over any rough edges and give the boxes a sheen. On the top of the largest box, draw a thin rectangular "slot." Cut this slot open using a craft knife. Position the boxes on top of each other and glue them together using a hot glue gun. At the bottom of each box, wrap and glue a length of ribbon for the final touch.

Gift Box Tower

The gift box tower is similar to the cake box project, although the result will look very different. Gather boxes of all different shapes and sizes. Include a few small boxes, such as jewelry boxes, to stack on the top. Wrap each box in a different color wrapping paper to coordinate with the rest of your wedding decor. Glue the paper to the top section and bottom section of each box individually. Attach ribbons and bows as you would when wrapping a gift, but glue them into place. Stack the boxes according to size and glue them together using a hot glue gun. Cut out a slot for cards in the largest box using a craft knife.
Mailbox

Repurpose a mailbox for this alternative card box idea. Purchase a plain metal mail box from a home improvement store. Decorate the box with flowers, ribbons or letter stickers. Glue words or pictures onto the box with rubber cement. Place it on the gift table with the door open, ready to receive cards. A retro metal lunch box would also work well for this project.
