College Grants & Scholarships for Low Income Individuals

Financial aid is available to students accepted to college who demonstrate economic need. However, for a variety of reasons, not all students qualify for enough aid to cover the costs of college. Applying for scholarships and grants can help offset any aid unmet by your college financial aid package. Scholarships for low-income individuals are plentiful.

  1. Dell Scholars Program

    • High school seniors may apply to the Dell Scholars Program to receive up to $4,500 toward the cost of college. The Dell Scholars Program does not award students with the highest academic achievement, but those who demonstrate they are not able to afford college and are determined to achieve their goals. You must be able to clearly explain how you overcame past adversities and plan to achieve your career goals using the grant money. To qualify, you must have a minimum 2.4 GPA on 4.0 scale.

    Sam Walton Community Scholarship

    Chick Evans Scholarship

    • Students with experience as a golf caddie may qualify for the Chick Evans Scholarship. The scholarship is full tuition plus the cost of housing. To qualify, applicants have been a caddie for at least two years, have a "B" average, and demonstrate financial need. Selections are also based on character. Applicants who demonstrate leadership skills and integrity are given stronger consideration. Students should be accepted or planning to enroll in an undergraduate college program at the time an application is submitted.

    ASIST

    • Nontraditional, low-income students can apply to receive the Adults in Scholastic Transition Scholarship. The scholarship is administered by Executive Women International. The organization gives twelve awards per year in the amount of $2,500 each. Preference is given to socially, physically and economically challenged adults who are responsible for children under the age 18. Scholarships can be used to cover the costs of tuition or childcare. Applicants should be able to describe how higher education will improve their lifestyle and future opportunities.
