Memorex Lightscribe Multi-Format DVD Recorder Errors
A Memorex Lightscribe multi-format DVD recorder is an optical disc recorder for computers. These drives can also create labels for the top side of recordable discs through laser etching, but in order to use the Lightscribe feature on your Memorex multi-format DVD recorder, you must use Lightscribe-enabled recordable media. Print settings, software and dirt are among other causes of error messages.

Media Types
-
If you are getting error messages from the Memorex mutli-format DVD recorder that a recordable disc is not Lightscribe compatible, look on the packaging for a Lightscribe logo on the outside. All manufacturers of Lightscribe-enabled media are required to clearly display this logo on packaging. Also, make sure you remember to flip the disc when printing a Lightscribe label image to the top surface of the disc.
Smudged Discs
-
Information about timing and identification are printed into the center pinwheel of Lightscribe recordable discs. If any fingerprints or dirt are on this section, a Memorex multi-format DVD recorder may not be able to recognize the disc as Lightscribe-enabled. Clean the disc with a soft cloth dampened with water and try to record to it again.
-
Lightscribe Software
-
Errors may occur with your Memorex Lightscribe multi-format DVD recorder if the included Lightscribe System Software has become out-of-date or corrupted. This software allows your computer to communicate with the Memorex drive and must be installed in order for proper creation of Lightscribe labels. You can update the Lightscribe System Software by visiting Lightscribe's support site.
Label Quality
-
Lightscribe labels created with a Memorex multi-format DVD recorder may have a low-quality look if you do not adjust the print settings. When printing a Lightscribe disc, select "Best" from the "Print Quality" drop-down menu instead of using the "Normal" or "Draft" settings. Also, do not be alarmed that Lightscribe labels printed on DVD discs have less contrast than Lightscribe CD labels. This is due to the extra layer of plastic required to manufacture Lightscribe-enabled DVD discs, not required for recordable CDs.
