"Your Attribute Value Is Too Long" in Google
Google allows merchants and marketers to gain more visibility and describe products and services through its Google Merchant Center Attributes feature. Merchants can add attributes such as availability, price, color, size and other various descriptions of a product to give it better visibility to people searching for a similar trait in a product and to give consumers a better description of a product. However, in some cases, you might receive an error message when adding an attribute indicating that it's too long.
-
Reason
-
The error message itself is brief, but it explains the reason you received the error in the first place: You're entering an attribute, but the text is too long for Google to accept it. In other words, you're being too wordy and descriptive and must trim the amount of text you're using in the attribute. Google can't accept the attribute because it's too long to store, or it will display awkwardly on the page at that length, or both.
Shorten Attributes
-
Shorten the attributes as much as you can. For example, if your original entry was, "This product is blue, similar to a mid-afternoon sky on a sunny day," try shortening it to simply say, "Sky blue." Being brief is helpful for a few reasons. First, it allows you to avoid the error from Google that the attribute is too long. Also, it saves consumers time. You want to guide them toward making a purchase, and if your product descriptions are too wordy, they might move on, as they don't have the time or desire to read all that text.
-
Multiple Attributes
-
If your attribute is too long and you're having a hard time shortening it, try breaking it up into multiple attributes. For example, if your attribute reads, "white, 50 lb. appliance, 3 feet by 3 feet, ships in 24 hours," and you're getting an error message that it's too long, you can break that up into four shorter attributes. One can list the color, another the dimensions, another the weight and another the shipping time.
Attribute Length
-
Different Google attributes have different limits on the number of characters you can use when entering the text for the attribute. Some attributes can be up to 100 characters, while others might be limited to 72 or fewer. If you're getting the error message when entering just one or a few characters, then you may be experiencing a technical error and not necessarily entering too much text. Contact Google customer support, or create a different attribute.
