Instructions

    • 1

Bake a sheet cake according to your favorite cake recipe or box mix instructions. Make a cake that is at least three serving sizes larger than you need to serve your guests, since you will be cutting the cake and discarding the cut out pieces. Let the cake cool completely.

    • 2

Draw the shape of Tweety's head on a piece of cardboard the same size as the sheet cake you made in Step 1. When drawing the head, use as much of the cardboard as possible. Cut the shape out using scissors.

    • 3

Transfer the sheet cake out of the pan and onto a serving platter. Place the cardboard cutout on top of the cake. Using a serrated knife, cut around the cardboard template and discard the cut away cake. Once the cake is cut, discard the template or save it for a future cake.

    • 4

Apply a crumb coat of buttercream frosting to the surface of the cake using an offset spatula. Place the cake in the refrigerator for 30 minutes to harden the frosting.

    • 5

Remove the cake from the refrigerator. Using a clean offset spatula, cover the cake with a layer of yellow buttercream frosting.

    • 6

Fill a plastic bag with black buttercream frosting. Cut the corner of the bag with a pair of scissors. Draw two large ovals on the cake to create Tweety's eyes using the black frosting. Fill in the pupils with the black frosting, as well, at the bottom of the eyes. Refer to a Tweety bird image to determine the right shape for the eyes.

    • 7

Fill a new plastic bag with blue frosting. Cut the corner of the bag using scissors. Use the blue frosting to pipe on blue irises above the black pupils.

    • 8

Fill another clean plastic bag with white buttercream frosting. Cut the corner, as you did before. Fill in the rest of the eye with the white frosting.

    • 9

Fill a fourth clean plastic bag with orange frosting. Cut the corner of the bag and pipe an orange beak on to the cake, using a Tweety image as a reference.

Tips & Warnings

  • A crumb coat is a layer of frosting that catches all the crumbs.

  • Buttercream frosting is a frosting made from butter and sugar. It has a stiff consistency, making it the preferred choice for cake decorating.

  • Alternatively, use a Tweety-shaped cake pan, such as the one from Wilton.

  • To color frosting, add a liquid, gel or powdered food coloring to the frosting. Stir to combine.
