Modify Firefox's settings to stop website redirects.

When a website redirects you to another page, you automatically go to another URL location, but you have the option to avoid this using your Firefox Web browser. Web creators typically use this option to guide you to an updated site in the event the original address expires, but some sites take advantage of this feature by creating a page that ranks high in search engines, yet has no value to you. Fortunately, Firefox provides the tools you need to prevent websites from redirecting you to another location.

Instructions

    • 1

Launch your Firefox Web browser, and click the "Options" item under the "Tools" menu.

    • 2

Click the "Advanced" tab at the top of the "Options" dialog window that displays, then click the "General" option.

    • 3

Locate the "Accessibility" section in the window, then click the box next to the "Warn me when Web sites try to redirect or reload the page" entry. Firefox now stops sites from redirecting you to other pages.

Tips & Warnings

  • Stopping website redirects also helps guard against landing on pages that contain viruses.
