Use your creativity to transform simple, inexpensive craft supplies into festive winter decor by making your own string of shimmering paper icicles. Hang the icicles across the front of a mantle, bookshelf or around a table to bring the beauty of winter into your home. Use them as part of your Christmas party decor or to dress up the buffet table at a winter banquet.
Things You'll Need
- Tape measure
- White paper roll
- Light blue tissue paper
- Spray adhesive
- White glitter
Measure the length of the area where you want to hang the icicles. You can hang them across your mantle, across the front of a shelf or around the edge of a table, for example. Tear a length of paper from the roll to the same length.
Draw a wavy line down the full length of the paper starting in one of the top corners. Make the waves varying heights and only 1 to 1 1/2 inches wide to resemble icicles. Cut the paper along the line.
Lay newspaper under the full length of the paper icicles. Lightly spray the paper with spray adhesive and lay sheets of blue tissue paper over the icicles. One sheet of tissue paper might not be enough to cover the full length of the icicles, so place the sheets end to end over the white paper to cover the whole length. Small wrinkles in the tissue paper are okay and give the icicles texture. Trim the tissue paper along the edges of the icicles after letting the glue dry for 20 minutes.
Spray the bottom half of string of icicles lightly with spray adhesive. Sprinkle white glitter over the bottom half to give the icicles an icy shimmer.
