How to Make Weighted Wristbands

A weighted wristband is a type of exercise equipment that you wear around your wrist. This type of weight can be worn when you're running or participating in an exercise class, the help with strength training and help you burn more calories. If you'd like to use this type of weight, consider making one yourself. Using some fabric and a pie weight, you can easily and inexpensively create a weighted wristband for your workout routine.

Things You'll Need

  • Scissors

  • Needle

  • Fabric

  • Pie Weight

  • Velcro

  • Fabric Glue

  • Thread

Step 1

Cut a piece of fabric to about 8 inches long and 5 inches wide. Use a sturdy fabric, like twill or cotton, so the weight doesn't pull the fabric apart.

Step 2

Fold the fabric in half length wise and sew the long ends together, making a tube out of the fabric. Sew one of the short ends closed, so the tub is closed at one end. Turn the fabric inside out so the clean side of the hem is on the outside and the rough edges of the fabric are on the inside.

Step 3

Slide a small pie weight into the tube. Pie weights can be found at most home goods or kitchen supply stores. They are thin and round.

Step 4

Tuck the edges of the open end of the tube inside the tube and sew shut, enclosing the tube so the pie weight won't fall out.

Step 5

Glue a piece of Velcro that is about 2 inches long to each end of the fabric tube, so you can wrap the wristband around your wrist and secure it in place.
