How to Mix Talcum Powder & Paint

People mix talcum powder with paint when making homemade face paint or body decorations. The talcum powder helps the paint stick to the skin when added to other ingredients. Mixing the two ingredients requires a bonding agent in the mixture, such as soap or water. The mixture of talcum powder with paint creates a substance that can be spread on skin, and if the paint is washable, it will come off easily.

Things You'll Need

• Saucepan
• 1/2 cup liquid starch
• 3 cups water
• 1/4 cup soap powder
• Handheld mixer
• 1/4 cup talcum powder
• Powdered paint

Instructions

1. Place the saucepan on the stove over medium heat and add the soap and water. The soap cannot be a detergent -- it must be powdered soap. The soap mixture makes the paint easier to clean off the skin.

2. Stir the soap and water together. Add starch, stirring until the soap dissolves.

3. Boil the mixture until it maintains a clear appearance. Turn the heat down if the mixture threatens to boil over the pot. Stir the mixture occasionally and watch the pot closely to avoid boiling all the liquid away.

4. Remove the pan from the burner and add the talcum powder and powdered paint. Stir the powders into the liquid gently.

5. Place the handheld mixer into the pan and mix the creation until it is smooth. The paint powder and talcum powder will not be evident in the mixture when it is ready.

6. Store the mixture in an air-tight container in the refrigerator.
