How to Make a Toga out of Fabric

Making a toga for that upcoming costume party is an easy and creative way to get into the spirit of a party. With commonly found household materials, you will be able to make your very own, very authentic-looking toga. Whether attempting to look Roman, Grecian or whatever else, these homemade toga directions will surely have you looking sharp! Not only extremely comfortable, but also quick to put together, togas are a great answer to short-notice costume parties as well.

Things You'll Need

  • Bed sheet or sheet of fabric
  • 4 safety pins
  • Select a sheet of fabric that is about 60 inches by 80 inches, or better yet, a twin bed sheet. Togas are normally white.

  • Wrap the sheet around your waist to create the skirt part of the toga and use a safety pin to pin it in place where the fabric overlaps.

  • Wrap the remaining length of fabric over a shoulder and back to the side of your waist and pin the fabric in place with a safety pin.

  • Pin the other two safety pins inside the toga to keep as spares in case either of the other two pins break.

Tips & Warnings

  • Leather sandals, as well as a crown made of leaves or tree branches, can really complete the look.
  • Remember to wear something under the toga in case of accidents.
