How to Review the Ultimate Angler Kayak

The Ultimate Angler Kayak, made by Native Watercraft, is a hybrid of sorts. The kayak is a sit-on-top (SOP) style touring kayak made specifically for anglers. Reviewing and assessing a kayak such as this is done by looking at the available fish well space, seat, stability and storage. It is very important to carefully review the Ultimate Angler before purchasing it, as it is quite an investment and is designed to last for many years. Get a good feel for the kayak, both on the water and off, in order to make an informed decision.

Instructions

    • 1

Sit in the kayak and notice its primary stability. This is the stability of the kayak when at rest. Because the Ultimate Angler is made for fishing, you will spend a significant amount of time both drifting and at rest, and primary stability is thus essential.

    • 2

Bring the kayak to hull speed by paddling. Secondary stability is the stability of the kayak when at paddling speed, or hull speed. The Ultimate Angler's 30 inch beam makes the kayak slower in the water and harder to bring to speed, but provides exceptional secondary stability.

    • 3

Adjust the seat to your liking. The Ultimate Angler uses a closed cell foam seat with adjustable nylon webbing straps. Make sure you are comfortable with the seat at the outset, and that the seat remains comfortable throughout a long fishing session.

    • 4

Lift the kayak and shoulder it, placing the cockpit combing over your shoulder. Practice placing it onto an auto roof rack, or in the back of a truck. The kayak' maneuverability is an important aspect of the kayak, particularly if you paddle and fish solo, or otherwise have no help getting the kayak from the auto rack to the water.

    • 5

Inspect the storage hatches and the small fish well on the hull of the boat. Make sure there is adequate space for your tackle, gear, camping equipment and fishing rods.
