Boys
-
1
Measure the lengths and waists of all the boys in the play. Buy sweatpants of any color a few sizes too big for each. Secure the bottom with safety pins or elastic bands just before the play so the sweatpants are tight on their ankles. This will give the image of Aladdin's "shalwar". Make sure they have no logo or design on them.
-
2
Tell each boy to wear a white sleeveless vest. A t-shirt can also be worn, but it must be plain.
-
-
3
Wrap a colored shawl around the waist to add color to the play. It is better if the shawl has fringes to add more character.
-
4
Add a fez or wrap a turban around the head. Add colored broaches and beads to complete the headpiece. (See resource 1)
-
5
Finish the look with simple sandals or flip-flops.
-
6
Adorn Aladdin with jewelry like rings, bracelets, and necklaces. Note: this should only be done when he is out of his peasant life and with Jasmine.
Girls
-
7
Make very loose pants out of colored sheer cloth. Sew them like normal pants, but loose in the middle and tight on the top and bottom. It doesn't need to be highly accurate. If you are unable to do this, wrap the sheer cloth around the girls' legs and make sure they wear shorts of the same color. The cloth should be able to flow and appear like a skirt.
-
8
Add a shawl or a belt to the waist area. Shiny gold or silver will add spunk to the costume.
-
9
Glue sequins and beads onto different colored sports bras. Use a glue gun to make sure they don't fall off. This is easier than making a top out of cloth yourself and it is fun to do. This is the top half of the costume. It can also be covered or loosely wrapped in sheer fabric.
-
10
Wear gladiator sandals or colored ballet flats. It will be best if they are vibrant, or gold with crystals.
-
11
Embellish Jasmine with more jewelry than the other girls. Use golden hoop earrings, necklaces, broaches, and bracelets. Don't be afraid to be flashy, she was a wealthy princess in extravagant times.

Tips & Warnings
Make clear distinctions between Aladdin's and Jasmine's costumes and the other cast's. Also make sure they're comfortable for them to walk in by holding dress rehearsals.
