A Jedi is a knight of the Jedi order in the "Star Wars" film series. They are recognized by their tunic and brown robe. The Jedi robe is easy to make and does not require much sewing. Most anyone can create a simple Jedi robe with some basic sewing supplies. The costume does, however, require a lot of fabric. If you find some inexpensive fabric on sale, it can cost much less than purchasing a ready-made robe.
Preparation
Step 1
Measure from the top of your shoulder to the floor. Note the distance from your outstretched hand to the middle of your chest and from shoulder to shoulder. Measure yourself from your armpit to the floor. Because this is not a fitted robe, the measurements do not have to be exact.

Step 2
Cut the fabric into a large rectangle that is twice as wide as your hand-to-chest measurement, adding 1 inch. Also add 1 inch to your meaurement that is twice as long as your shoulder to the floor. Cut out a smaller rectangle of fabric 16 inches wide by 32 inches long for the hood.
Step 3
Fold the large rectangle of fabric in half widthwise. Have the right sides (outside of the fabric) face each other.
Step 4
Draw a line straight up the center of the fabric with chalk. Mark 3 inches from the fold on the centerline. Make two more marks 3 inches to the left and right of the centerline on the fold. Draw a half circle connecting all three points.
Step 5
Make two marks along the bottom of the fabric. These should be half of the shoulder-to-shoulder measurement you got in Step 1 on either is of the centerline. Draw a line from each of the two marks that are the length of your armpit to shoulder measurement, minus 4 inches.
Step 6
Make a mark 15 inches from the fold on one of the edges of the fabric perpendicular to the fold. Draw a line from that point to the end of the line in Step 5. Repeat for the other side.
Step 7
Pin the two sides of the fabric together just inside the outer lines. Cut along the outer lines through both layers of fabric with the scissors. Cut up the centerline only through the top layer of fabric.
Assembly
Step 1
Sew the back of the robe to the front of the robe 1/2 inch from the edge of the fabric. Use a straight stitch on your sewing machine. Start at the end of the sleeve, sew up the arm and down the side ending at the hem. Remove the pins.
Step 2
Fold the small rectangle in half widthwise with the right sides facing each other. Sew one of the sides together 1/2 inch from the edge, starting at the fold. This is the back seam of the hood.
Step 3
Pin the back seam of the hood to the center of the back of the robe, with the right side together. Pin the bottom edges of the hood to the top edge of the robe.
Step 4
Sew the hood to the robe 1/2 inch from the edge.
Step 5
Fold the front edge of the robe over 1/4 inch. Fold it over again another 1/4 inch and pin in place. Start at the hem going up the front, around the front of the hood, back down the front and end at the hem. Sew the fold in place on the sewing machine. Repeat this to the end of the sleeve and the bottom hem of the robe. If you find this is too tricky, just fold the edges in 1/2 inch and sew in place.
Tip
If you can’t find brown fabric, buy light-colored fabric and brown fabric dye. Follow the dyeing directions on the box. You can buy two pieces of fabric and sew these together at the shoulders, if you can’t find a piece of fabric long enough to be twice your shoulder height. Just remember to add an extra inch for seam allowance. All seams can be sewn by hand with a needle and thread if no sewing machine is available.
