How to Build a Custom Live Linux CD
Creating a custom Linux live boot disk is one method for installing Linux with a specific configuration on multiple computers or for creating a customized backup of your system. The process for creating a custom Linux live CD will vary slightly, depending on which Linux distribution is being used -- but the basic process is still similar. For the purpose of this article, the Ubuntu variant of Linux will be used with Remastersys.

Click on the "System" menu and select "Administration" then "Software Sources."

Click on the "Third-Party Software" tab and click "Add."

Type "deb http://www.remastersys.klikit-linux.com/repository remastersys/" (without the quotes) in the "APT line" field in the window that pops up. Then click on "Add Source."

Click on the "System" menu and select "Administration" then "Synaptic Package Manager."

Click on the "Search" button and type "Remastersys." Click on the check box beside the "remastersys" entry in the results window and select "Mark for Installation." After installation is complete, proceed to Step 6.

Click on the "System" menu and select "Administration" then "Remastersys Backup" to start Remastersys.

Click on "Backup" and click "OK." You can also click on "Modify" to change the backup file settings, if desired.

Once the backup process has completed, burn the created .iso image to disc.

Test the newly created live Linux boot disk by inserting it into a computer and booting from it. Repeat Steps 7 and 8, if necessary.
