How to Create a Group on Facebook & Invite Others

Create a Facebook group to post information and stay in contact with your group members.

Facebook groups are a good way to keep organizations or groups up to date on information, stay in contact with one another and post pictures and event information. School alumni, church groups or business groups are just a few of the groups that can benefit from Facebook groups. Someone must create the group first, and then you can invite others to join your group. Once members are added, they can also post information and pictures to the group page.

Instructions

Create a Group

1. Sign in to your Facebook account.

2. Click "Create Group," which is listed in the second set of options under your profile picture on the left side of your homepage. You may have to click "See All" or "More" to see this option if you already have a number of existing groups.

3. Fill in the information for the group you are creating. This includes your group name, any members you want to add and a privacy setting. You can set your privacy setting by clicking the drop down arrow next to "Privacy" in the "Create Group" box and selecting one of the three privacy options. Selecting "Closed" means anyone can see the group and who's in it, but only members see posts. An "Open" privacy setting allows anyone to see the group, who's in it and what members post. A setting of "Secret" allows only members to see the group, who's in it and what members post.

4. Click "Create Group" when you are finished entering the group information. Facebook will take you to the group's page.

5. Click "Edit Group" at the top right of the page to fill in more group information. You can add a group description, set a group email address, add a group picture and manage members.

Invite Others

1. Sign in to your Facebook account.

2. Click the group to which you want to invite friends from your groups at the left of your homepage, under your profile picture.

3. Click "Add Friends to Group" on the right hand side of the group page.

4. Type in your friend's name, and click "Add." A list of your friends populates after you enter the first few letters, and you can click on the specific friend you want to add.
