A way to paint the Texas flag.

The Lone Star State has a unique flag that represents the people of Texas. Painting the flag can be a craft project that can be enjoyed by the whole family. You will need specific paint for this project to make it a success. With practice, you can create a Texas flag to resemble the original.

Step 1

Measure your canvas or paper to match the exact dimensions of the actual Texas flag. Use a ruler or a measuring tape to determine the exact measurements. According to the Texas State Library and Archive, the width of the state flag (the shorter part) is two-thirds its length (the longer part).

Step 2

Place your canvas or paper on a flat surface, such as a table or countertop. Placing it on a flat surface will prevent it from slipping. Place the opened paint on the table, along with your paintbrush for easy access.

Step 3

Paint the blue stripe on the left side of the flag. Make long, even strokes with your paintbrush. The blue stripe is one-third of the length of the flag (see references). If you want a darker color, you can apply a second coat. Allow the blue stripe to dry for 20 to 30 minutes.

Step 4

Paint the red and white stripes on the right side of the flag, lengthwise. The red and white stripes are equal size and they are each two-thirds the length of the flag. The white stripe goes on the top, while the red stripe goes on the bottom of the flag. For a darker color, you can apply second coat of paint to each strip. Allow the red and white stripes to dry for 20 to 30 minutes.

Step 5

Draw the outline of the star on the blue stripe. You can draw the star freehand. The white star is at the center of the blue stripe and is three-quarters the width of the blue stripe. Once the outline is carefully placed on the blue stripe, fill it with white paint. Apply more than one coat of white paint on the star, so the blue paint from the stripe doesn't show. Allow 20 to 30 minutes for the star to dry.

Tip

Paint the flag in a well-ventilated area.
