How to Troubleshoot the Canon MF3240

The Canon MF3240 is a multifunction printer for the workplace. It is a compact unit that functions as a stand-alone laser printer, copier, color scanner and fax. Some problems may occur due to improper paper loading and paper jams. The machine's memory stores over 250 documents and often requires being cleared out or deleted. Also, toner cartridges and paper must be properly inserted for the machine to operate correctly and efficiently.

Paper Jams

  • Open the face cover and push down on the green paper release levers of the paper output to expose the jammed paper.

  • Hold the jammed paper on both sides and carefully push it inward and then gently pull it outward to clear the jammed paper.

  • Pull the paper straight out of the rollers. Do not move it side to side or pull unevenly on the sides of the paper.

  • Close the face cover once the jammed paper is removed.

  • Make even the edges of the paper stack before loading it into machine if you experience repeated paper jams. If the paper is uneven, it cannot feed properly into the machine.

  • Remove any scraps or pieces of paper from the machine after a paper jam. Leftover scraps can cause more paper jams and eventually damage the machine.

Memory Full

  • Divide the fax or scanned document into smaller jobs if the memory becomes full during faxing or scanning. The entire document may be too large for the machine to store.

  • Wait for the machine to send or scan any previous documents before attempting to fax or scan a new job. The machine memory can only store 256 jobs, including documents that are sent or received.

  • Press the "M" button on the face plate of the machine to access previously saved documents.

  • Delete previously sent, scanned or faxed documents from the machine's memory. Press "System Monitor" on the top of machine and then use the arrow buttons to select "TX Status." Use the arrow buttons to select documents and then press "OK" followed by "Yes" to delete the selected documents.

  • Unplug the power cord to delete all documents stored in the machine's memory.

  • Check to make sure the toner cartridge is properly installed if you receive a "Toner is Not Set" message on the machine's LCD screen.

  • Open the front cover of the machine.

  • Remove the large toner cartridge carefully with both hands.

  • Position the arrow mark on the toner cartridge towards the machine and reinsert the toner cartridge as far into the machine as it will go.

  • Carefully close the front cover and make sure the error message has cleared from the LCD screen.

Tips & Warnings

  • Never force jammed paper out of the machine. Contact Canon Customer Care Center at 1-800-828-4040 if the paper will not ease out.
  • Remove any watches, bracelets or rings when handling the inside of the machine. These items can become damaged if they get caught in the machine. They may also cause further damage to the machine itself.
