How to Use Microsoft Word As a Typewriter

With the advent of computers and word processing software, such as WordPerfect or Ami Pro, the use of the typewriter began its precipitous decline in the early 1990s. However, if you're feeling nostalgic, you can use Microsoft Word to produce typewriter-like lettering. This way, you combine the convenience of a word processor and that old-time look of typewriter text.

  • Open Microsoft Word by going to "Start," "Programs" and "Microsoft Word." You can also double-click the icon on your desktop.

  • Select "Font" from the formatting menu tools bar. Select "Times New Roman" or "Courier," which are the closest fonts to typewriter fonts.

  • Start typing your text. Hit the "Enter" key to begin a new paragraph. Use the "Backspace" or "Delete" keys to delete and edit text.

  • Print your finished work by pressing the "Ctrl" and "P" keys simultaneously to open the Print Dialogue box. Select the number of copies you wish to print, and then press the "OK" button to print.
