How to Make a 4th of July Tutu Dress

Save

A spectacular 4th of July red, white and blue tutu dress can be made with a minimum of sewing. The tutu is made of tulle fabric, which is available in many colors by the yard at fabric stores. You complete the dress by sewing the tutu to a t-shirt or tank top. This outfit will provide a big burst of color in the 4th of July for a wearer of any age, from a baby to an adult.

Things You'll Need

  • Tape measure
  • 1 yard 1-inch wide elastic
  • 1 yard red tulle
  • 1 yard blue tulle
  • 1 yard white tulle
  • White t-shirt or tank top
  • Sewing needle
  • Thread
  • Measure around the waist of the dress wearer with the tape measure. Cut the elastic to the measurement minus 1 inch. Sew the ends together with the needle and thread to create a circle.

  • Measure the wearer from the waist to the desired length. Cut all tulle into 2-inch wide strips that are twice the desired length measurement plus 1 inch.

  • Fold each tulle strip in half and knot it around the elastic, alternating red, white and blue tulle strips.

  • Hand-stitch the elastic to the bottom of the t-shirt or tank top to complete the 4th of July tutu dress.
