How to Replace AT&T Voice Mail With Google Voice


Google Voice is a free online service that provides users with a variety of innovative and useful telephone services. One of the most popular is the Google Voice voicemail service, which offers much more functionality than the standard voicemail offered by most cellular providers. If you are an AT&T wireless customer, you can replace your existing AT&T voicemail with the Google Voice service and enjoy everything Google Voice voicemail has to offer.

Things You'll Need

  • Google Voice account
  • Log in to your Google Voice account.

  • Click the gear icon in the top-right corner of the screen and select "Voice settings" from the drop-down menu.

  • Ensure the "Phones" tab is selected, scroll to the bottom of the page and click "Add another phone." Enter a name for the phone and your AT&T phone number in the boxes provided and click the "Save" button. A pop-up window will appear with a two-digit verification code. Click "Call Now" to prompt Google Voice to call the phone. Answer the call and enter the code to register your phone.

  • Refresh the page if necessary to see your newly activated AT&T phone in the list of phones associated with your Google Voice account. Click the "Activate Google voicemail on this phone" link next to the phone entry.

  • Click the drop-down menu in the pop-up window, select "AT&T" and click "Next."

  • Dial the number that appears in the pop-up window from your AT&T phone. When the call completes, the phone is registered and callers will automatically be directed to your Google Voice voicemail when they call your AT&T number.
