How to Make a Shoe Horn

A shoe horn is a spoon-shaped tool that facilitates the process of putting on a shoe, and it reduces stress on the back of the shoe. The wearer holds the tool over the back end of the shoe, keeping the shoe open while sliding in the heel of the foot. Commercial shoe horns come in a variety of materials such as metal, plastic, bone or wood. You can use a common handkerchief as a shoe horn in any situation.

  • Fold the handkerchief lengthwise several times until it is as wide as your heel.

  • Place the narrow end of the handkerchief in the toe of the shoe and allow the other end of the cloth to hang over the back of the shoe.

  • Insert the front of your foot into the shoe and hold the cloth down with your toes. Pull the other end of the cloth tight with your hand.

  • Slide your heel over the cloth and into the shoe.

  • Pull out the handkerchief.
