How to Turn on 3G on a Droid Phone

Save

The Motorola Droid is a 3G Android phone from Verizon that uses the 3G standard for wireless data access. Using the Settings menu within the Android software, it's possible to enable and disable this connection to save bandwidth or block incoming calls. You can also use the phone's built-in Airplane mode to quickly disable all wireless services: 3G, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. This is also a simple way to reset the connection between your phone and the nearest cellular tower.

Activating 3G

  • Press the power button and slide the unlock button to the right to unlock the screen. Press the "HOME" button.

  • Press the "MENU" button, then tap "Settings." Tap "Wireless & Networks."

  • Scroll down the list and tap "Mobile networks." Check the box next to "Data enabled" if it is blank.

  • Press the "HOME" button to return to the home screen.

Enabling/Disabling Airplane Mode

  • Press the power button and slide the unlock button to the right to unlock the screen. Press the "HOME" button.

  • Press the "MENU" button, then tap "Settings." Tap "Wireless & Networks."

  • Tap the box marked "Airplane Mode." Press the "HOME" button. Your 3G, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth radios are now disabled.

  • Repeat steps 1 to 3 to disable Airplane Mode and re-enable your wireless radios. Your connection to the 3G data network will be reset.

Tips & Warnings

  • In some areas, 3G data is not available, and the slower EDGE or 1X standards are used instead. If no data connection at all is available, you will see no letters or numbers next to the signal indicator.
