How to Get Rid of Bing on My Computer

Google, Bing and other search engines offer free tools that enhance the browsing experience. Bing, for example, has a toolbar called the "Bing Bar" that works with newer versions of Internet Explorer. Once Web surfers install the Bing bar, they can use it to search the Internet, play games, read email and perform other Web-based activities. If you do not need any of these features, you can remove Bing from your computer.

Instructions

    • 1

Click the Windows Start button to open the Start menu.

    • 2

Type appwiz.cpl in the Start menu search box and press "Enter." The "Uninstall or Change Program" window opens and lists your installed applications.

    • 3

Scroll through the list and locate an entry named "Bing Bar." Click that entry to highlight it.

    • 4

Click the "Uninstall" button at the top of the window. A pop-up window will ask if you wish to uninstall the Bing Bar.

    • 5

Click "Yes." A pop-up progress bar appears as Windows uninstalls the Bing Bar. Wait for the pop-up bar to disappear. When it does, Bing will be gone from your computer.

Tips & Warnings

  • If Internet Explorer is open when you uninstall the Bing Bar, that toolbar will still appear in the browser. Restart Internet Explorer, and Bing will no longer appear as one of the toolbars. Instead of removing Bing from your computer, you can also hide the toolbar in Internet Explorer. This will allow you to reclaim the browser space occupied by the Bing Bar.
