How to Make Edible Santa Elves

How to Make Edible Santa Elves thumbnail
Create small, edible replicas of Santa's elves.

Use Santa's elves as a theme for edible holiday treats. Form candies and cookies into the festive shape. Many stores sell holiday-themed candy molds and cookie cutters around Christmas. Use the treats as gifts, decorations or snacks. For example, make a gingerbread house. Place candy elves around the house to give it a Christmas feel. If you want to give the treats away as gifts, fill a small sleigh decoration with wrapped elf candies. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

  1. Candies

    • 1

Pour one cup of melting candy chips into a plastic bowl. Microwave the candy for 20 seconds and stir. If the chips require additional melting, do so in five second intervals.

    • 2

Lay elf molds on a flat surface.

    • 3

Scoop out some of the melted candy with the tablespoon. Pour it into the molds to fill. If you use a lollipop mold, fill the mold halfway, insert the stick and fill the mold the rest of the way.

    • 4

Stick the molds in the refrigerator until the candy hardens (about four hours, depending on size).

    • 5

Carefully pop out the elf candies. They are now ready to eat or use as decorations.

    Cookies

    • 6

Roll out the sugar cookie dough on a flat, clean surface until it's about a 1/4-inch thick.

    • 7

Cut out the dough with an elf cookie cutter. Remove the cut dough and place the shapes on a cookie sheet.

    • 8

Bake the cookies for the time stated in the recipe. Remove cookies from the oven when they finish baking. Wait until the cookies cool before the next step.

    • 9

Spread icing over the cooled cookies. Pour sprinkles over the icing.

Tips & Warnings

  • If you want your candy-mold elves to have colored features, paint the molds with food coloring before you pour in the melted candy.
