How to Clean a Dyson Ball Filter

Save

You and your Dyson Ball vacuum cleaner have logged countless hours of cleaning. It may now be time to give your vacuum with a little routine maintenance. The Dyson Ball contains a pair of filters, and depending on the model, at least one of these filters must be washed regularly. Filters provide an invaluable service, separating small particles from the air that could be detrimental your vacuum's performance. Washing these filters regularly allows them to provide maximum protection.

Things You'll Need

  • Cold water

Dyson DC15

  • Wash your Dyson DC15 washable filter once every six months.

  • Press the release button at the top of the bin handle, and detach the bin from the DC15 vacuum.

  • Lift the filter release catch on the cyclone at the top of the clear bin, and raise the lid. Remove the filter inside.

  • Remove the blue filter from its yellow case.

  • Wash both the filter and its case in cold water. Continue washing the filter until only clear water runs from it.

  • Allow the filter to air dry for at least 12 hours. Be sure the filter is completely dry before reinstalling it.

Dyson DC24 and DC25

  • Wash both Dyson DC24 washable filters once every month. Wash both Dyson DC25 filters once every three months.

  • Press the cyclone release catch on top of the cyclone handle. Separate the bin assembly from the DC24 or DC25.

  • Raise the filter release catch which is just below the cyclone handle, lift the filter cover and remove the filter inside.

  • Press the release catch located on the ball, at the bottom of the vacuum cleaner. Open the filter cover on the ball and remove the second filter.

  • Separate the first filter from its plastic casing. If the filter does not have a plastic housing, disregard this step.

  • Wash both filters and any housing in cold water. Avoid using detergent or washing the filters in a dishwasher or washing machine. Wash both filters until the water from the filters runs clear. Tap the side of the ball filter occasionally to make sure all excess water is removed.

  • Allow both filters to air dry until completely dry before reinstalling them.
