How to Upgrade to 2Wire for Faster Internet Speed
2wire, now owned by Pace, is a networking provider for wireless and wired routers and modems. Depending on your current Internet provider, you may be able to upgrade your 2wire modem to experience a faster Internet speed. If you do not have a provider that is using 2wire equipment, you can purchase a 2wire wireless router that can still be used to give you an increase in Internet speed. There may be additional components that you may have to purchase that will be compatible with the 2wire router that will assist in increasing speed.

1
Speak with your Internet service provider to verify if you can use a compatible 2wire router or modem with your service. For example, AT&T U-verse uses 2wire modems for their customers to connect to the Internet. However, other providers may not have the proper configuration to support 2Wire.

Check your current Internet adapter to see if it's a wireless-N. adapter. Most adapters either have an a/b/g signal. Wireless N technology is the newest, fastest wireless signal and can also project a further wireless range than the wireless a/b/g. Access your control panel through your computer (Click "Start" then "Control panel") navigate to "Device Manager' and click the arrow next to "Network Adapters" and check if your wireless card has "Wireless N" within the title. If the adapter is wireless N, then you can purchase a 2Wire wireless N router to maximize speed potential.

Replace your current Cat5e cables (category 5 Ethernet) with Cat6e cables. Most modems and routers come with Cat5e cables. Upgrading to a category six Ethernet cable will increase the speed between the data from the modem to the router to your computer. Cat6e cables are more expensive than the Cat5e cables so you should only use them if you're on a Wireless or Wired N network to notice any difference.

Connect your current Internet service provider's modem to your 2Wire router. The back of your current modem should have a port labeled "Internet" where your Cat6e should connect to a port labeled "Internet" of your 2Wire router. Restart your computer, unplug both the 2Wire and modem for 30 seconds to a minute and plug them back into your wall outlet.
