How to Use AVG With Websense
AVG is an antivirus program with both free and commercial editions. Like other antivirus programs, AVG regularly downloads new virus definition updates. The updates allow it to detect the latest viruses and stop them from running on your computer. If AVG is running on a network using the Websense Web-filtering software, it won't be allowed to download these updates by default. After you allow the addresses AVG updates using the Websense Manager configuration tool, AVG can download updates normally.

Click "Start" followed by "Programs," "Websense" and "Websense Manager." If Websense Manager isn't installed, type "https://<IP address>:9443/mng" into your Web browser, replacing "<IP address>" with the IP address of the Websense server. Press "Enter."

Type "WebsenseAdministrator" into the "User name" box, and then type the Websense administrator password into the "Password" box.

Click "Log On."

Navigate to "Policy Management" followed by "Filter Components," "Edit Categories" and "Add Category" by clicking the links on the "Websense Manager" page.

Type a name such as "AVG Updates" into the "Category Name" box.

Type a description for the category into the "Description" box.

Type the following website addresses onto separate lines in the "Edit URLs" box:
update.avg.com
backup.avg.cz
akamai.avg.com

Click the "Action" box followed by "Permit" and "OK."

Save and enable the new filters by clicking the "Save All" button on the page.
