How to Troubleshoot an Olevia 237T TV

A download to a USB may fix some of the set's performance problems.

Olevia offers liquid crystal display (LCD) televisions at affordable prices. The Syntax Olevia 237T LCD high definition television is a 37 inch television that offers 720 pixel resolution. There are a number of factors you can check yourself if the set experiences problems. One of the issues with the 237T is the firmware updates that are periodically released. If your set does not have the most recent firmware downloaded to the television, the television will not work properly.

Instructions

1. Complete a thorough inspection of the television and of all the connections going to and from the set. Unplug all connection cords from the cable/converter box and plug them back into the television. Make sure the cords are plugged into the cable/converter box. Loose cords can create disturbances with the picture and color displays on the television.

2. Review the Support Frequently Asked Questions on the Olevia site (under Resources, below). The FAQ section may be able to provide guidance with many common technical problems.

3. Check the most recent firmware downloaded on your television. Press the "Menu" button on your remote. Then use the down button on your remote to select the following options: Go to DTV then DTV Setup, followed by Setting, System Information and System Settings. Once you complete this you will be able to view the date of the last firmware update on your television. Write the information down.

4. Go to schot.com to view recent updates to firmware. If the dates listed on the site are later than your most recent update, you must upgrade your television's firmware. Download the firmware upgrade onto a Universal Serial Bus cord. Insert the USB into the back of your Olevia 237T. The USB port is located on the right hand side near the bottom of the television.

5. Press "Menu" on your remote and arrow down to "USB firmware update." Select the upgrade and press enter. Your television will go dark for a few minutes while it is updating. Wait until the screen comes back up.

6. Press "Menu" on your remote. Go to DTV, then DTV setting, Channel Scanning and Auto Scan. This will make the television reconnect with the cable/converter box so that it can recognize all the channels available. This may take a few minutes. Once complete, press "Menu" on your remote to finish the process.
