How to Make Your Own Free Voting Flyer
If you want to get the word out before the next Election Day, consider creating a voting flyer to post around town and hand out to passers-by. Whether you hope to encourage people to vote in general or are promoting a specific candidate, flyers can help you get your message out to the masses. If you make flyers by hand, you'll not only save money, but you'll also be able to tailor the design to meet your needs. You don't need artistic talent or special supplies to create a flyer that's eye-catching and effective.

1
Make a list of the things that you want to say on the flyer. For example, you might include the election date, the voting locations, who you want the flyer recipient to vote for, or the benefits of voting. Then, create a catch phrase that will draw attention and that relays your primary message. Something like "Your Vote Counts" or "Come Out and Vote" might convey your message best.

2
Draft your poster, using a pencil and paper. Write your catch phrase in large letters at the top center of your flyer. To make your letters all the same height, draw a line across the paper. Use a ruler to measure from the line to where you want the top of your letters to be, for example, 1 inch. Mark your height line on the paper, and then draw another line across the paper through that line. Write your letters so that they start at the bottom of the first line and go up to the second line.

3
Write out the different elements of the flyer, such as addresses or dates, in different lettering styles so that each section will attract the eye. For example, italicize the dates, or use cursive handwriting for a candidate's name.
-
4
Draw a border around the edge of the flyer and add any images that you want. Use a ruler to outline the border, making your border come in from the edge of the paper ¼ inch. A border enhances the look of your flyer.
-
5
Color in the lettering on the flyer, using colored pencils or markers. If you will be making copies of the flyer, use a color copier to best convey the design.

Tips & Warnings
Create your voting flyer on a computer to take advantage of the variety of fonts, text colors and text enhancements available in programs such as Microsoft Word. If you use this method, you can print out as many copies of the completed project as you want, using a printer. However, this method of drafting a flyer may cost more than hand-drawing, given the cost of paper and ink, as well as the cost of the equipment and software used.
