Mushrooms come in all different shapes and sizes. They make interesting decorative elements for gardens and even indoor decorating. Some people use mushroom themes to decorate children’s rooms and other rooms. The uses for a mushroom craft are as large as your imagination. You can make these mushrooms in one or two days. Vary the size of the bowl and logs for greater variety.

Things You'll Need

  • Craft glue
  • Large bowls
  • Plastic disposable bags
  • Newspaper
  • Spray paint
  • Acrylic paint
  • Paintbrushes
  • Waterproof spray sealer
  • 18- to 24-inch long log with bark
  • 3-inch screws
  • Power screwdriver

Mix a ratio of equal parts craft glue and water in a bowl. Cover the inside of another bowl with a plastic bag.

Cut strips of newspaper into 2-inch wide sections. Dip the strips into the glue mixture, then lay them over the bag inside the bowl. Apply three layers of paper, then allow the paper to dry for three hours. Apply three more layers of paper over the first three layers. Allow the paper to dry for 24 hours.

Remove the paper bowl from inside the real bowl and remove the plastic bag. Trim the sides of the paper bowl with a utility knife to remove any jagged edges. Take the paper bowl outside.

Spray the top of the bowl with spray paint. Allow the paint to dry. Spray with two more layers of paint for full coverage.

Apply dots of paint with acrylic paints or other textures or details onto the bowl, which will be the tops of the mushroom. Allow the paint to dry. Spray a waterproof sealer over the inside and outside of the mushroom top to protect it.

Screw the mushroom top to the log with two or three screws. Add additional paint over the screws to camouflage them.
