How to Repair Lip Lines

Lips with an uneven line have a harder time holding lipstick.

Wrinkles, dryness or cracked lips can cause a lip line to go from full and plump to uneven. Bleeding lipstick or lips that appear crooked are embarrassing, though not difficult to treat. From quick fixes, like lip repairing makeup, to more permanent procedures, such as cosmetic surgery, fixes for uneven or broken lip lines range from quick and cheap to multi-session, expensive treatments. The best solution depends on the individual's needs and the severity of the problem.

Instructions

1. Undergo lip augmentation. Augmentation consists of injecting a synthetic material or fat harvested from the body into the lips. This can fill lips, decrease the wrinkles or lines around the lips and smooth out the lip line. While implants, which cost up to $5000, are a long lasting approach to repairing the lip line, collagen or fat injections require repeat injections, which can cost anywhere from $400 to $900 a session, as the body slowly absorbs them.

2. Reactivate collagen production with laser treatments. Laser treatments resurface skin, and smooth out lines and the contours of the mouth. Like lip augmentation, laser treatment requires multiple sessions which typically cost around $500 each, though results lasts longer than fillers.

3. Apply lip plumping lip glosses, which are designed to slightly puff up lips through the use of an agent that causes inflammation. Results are temporary, and not as effective as surgical measures.

4. Line lips with lip liner. Lip liner work as a barrier to keep lipstick from bleeding, especially where wrinkles or lines cause lips lines to be broken or jagged. For individuals who don't use lip liner, an extra application of foundation around the mouth, well blended, works the same way.

5. Moisturize lips. Moisturizing is an important part of any beauty regimen. As the lips don't have a dermis, and therefore cannot produce their own oils, keeping lips moist with balm helps hold the lip line in place and fights flaking or tearing. Many over-the-counter anti-aging lip treatments and skin moisturizers are designed to encourage collagen production, smoothing and repairing lip lines.
